Idea for #10 can storage

Thought about this while I was in the hospital waiting for surgery...

We need another place to store #10 cans... where can we store that is out of the way, inconspicuous, temp controlled, and still accessible?

Then it hit me.

Remove the box springs and slats from your beds, and create a reinforced plywood box with hinged lids on the top of to store the #10 cans. The cans are the approx height of a box spring, and if you paint the box to a tan or gray, it should cover with a bed valance and become invisible.

The cans would litterally touch the bottom and top of the plywood box, making it very strong, with no chance of damage to your cans (or bed)

I am thinking you store 50-70 cans this way under a normal queen bed.

I think this sounds like a great winter project.

What do you guys think?

PS> The poor (lazy?) guys way to do this is even easier... Place 3/4 plywood cut to queen size on evenly placed slats, stack your VERY long term storage cans covering the entire area, place another 3/4 inch plywood piece on top, and replace your mattress.

Not nearly as pretty, but should get the job done.

PS> it is amazing how much better your mind thinks when you turn off the tube and all the other distractions.

Doesn't the box spring make your bed more comfortable?

Yeah if you actually have SPRINGS in your "box springs". We just bought a new bed about 2 years ago and the "box springs" were really just a "box" there were no springs in it whatsoever. It is a lie that new mattresses need box springs to extend their life. New mattress box springs have NO SPRING and no give in them anymore.

I just threw out my "box springs" and made a 2x4 slat + 3/4" plywood base for our bed frame (Queen) and then put it on bed risers (the box springs had to go...bed was toooooo tall. I'm 6'3" and had a tough time getting into it!) so we could store stuff under there. Don't trust the guys at Home Depot to understand what you tell them to do (in cutting plywood...I still live in an apartment...trying my HARDEST to get out of here). He cut my plywood wrong, I asked him to cross cut it at this measurement and then rip it to that. He crosscut it TWICE, then home depot wouldn't refund my money because they can't refund on "cut" plywood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So its a bastardized piecemeal of plywood the wrong size under the bed, but it hold fine and is just as comfy as it was with the "box springs". If you need it cut right, cut it yourself. AND DON'T USE "COMPLICATED" TERMS LIKE CROSSCUT AND RIP WITH THE GUYS AT HOME DEPOT!

Ditch the box springs on new mattresses (or don't spend extra $$ for them) they DON'T make them like they used to!!
